Foam Brewers

Entrance to Foam Brewers in Burlington VT.

I headed out to Foam Brewers | Craft Beer Brewery located in Burlington, Vermont on a recent excursion to Vermont as they were #1 on my list to visit after enjoying a few of their brews at the Saratoga Beer Summit this past February. Foam Brewers are a stone’s throw away from Lake Champlain, you can view the lake from inside the taproom.

There are 14 drafts available for your enjoyment in the tap room which can also be bottled in growlers to-go. They also have a selection of cans for take-out purchases.

They don’t offer flights at Foam Brewers, however, I was able to sample anything I asked for, which was perfect. The first two I tasted were Suburban Wonderland an Oat IPA and Rattlesnake Milk a DIPA. Rattlesnake Milk was too hoppy for me so I went with a short pour of Suburban Wonderland at 6.5% ABV.ย

Suburban Wonderland presented with a citrus pine nose, which wasn’t altogether pleasing, but upon tasting, had a nice creaminess with a bit of a hoppy bite.

Next up I went for Heavy Water an American Stout coming in at 6.2% ABV. This stout had a lovely chocolate nose with rich coffee and dark chocolate on the tongue with a hint of raspberry on the back end. It had just enough raspberry to compliment the chocolate, perfection.ย

My next brew was Tell Me Are The Rumors True? A Wild Ale at 7.5% ABV. This one was delicious! My first beer was made using rhubarb, which I think helped to balance out the blood orange and Montmorency cherries. It was a lovely blush color, with a light crispness and a moderate sour.

My last beer of the day was Minus Times Vienna Lager which sits at 5.2% ABV. Minus Times is a series the first of which was a delectable Doppelbock. I had a sample of the Doppelbock at last month’s Saratoga Beer Summit.

This next addition, a Vienna Lager is one of the most interesting beers I’ve ever had, toasty and malty on the nose with a mild floral sweetness on the taste. The interesting part was the caramel taste on the backend that traveled into my nasal cavity and whose scent lingered, long after the beer had been consumed. This happened with every sip of beer until it was finished. I swear I can still recall that caramel scent even now, days later.

Glass of Blueberry kombucha on the bar.

My companion, my benevolent designated driver ordered a Queen City Blueberry Kombucha to enjoy, and enjoy we did (I sampled a bit myself). They also offer the Queen City Maple Kombucha as well. But I say get the Blueberry because seriously, look how cool it is sitting on the bar light!!

Tom and Landon were on the bar the afternoon I spent at Foam. Both are well-versed in the available beers, and they serve them up with a smile. Tom especially was a joy to chat with, not only about beer but also about the snowy sailboat excursions taking place on Lake Champlain.

We watched and wondered aloud WHY the sailing school chose a mini snowstorm to put their boats in the water. The calendar may have said the first day of spring, but the weather did not agree! Ah, to each their own I suppose! We had a good laugh and hoped for their safe return.

Outdoor seating area.

Foam Brewers has a great outside seating area complete with a bar, for the warmer weather It’s set back just a bit from Lake Champlain.

Events

Foam Brewers offers live music on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that ranges from Indie to Pop to Punk to Bluegrass and everything in between. For the music junkies among us, see if you can come up with the band or song each beer is named after. If you’re in the tap room and get stuck, ask one of the bartenders for the Beer Name Bible which resides behind the bar. This book holds every beer name, and where it came from musically. One example is the band Rattlesnake Milk which is the name of one of their DIPAs.

They also have Jazz Thursdays!

Home Delivery!?

One more little tidbit about Foam Brewers you may be excited to hear, they offer home delivery! It is currently limited to the following places: New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, and of course, Vermont, but things change every day so keep checking back, your state may be next. They offer a Build-Your-Own-Box which can contain 3 or 4 4-packs. All beers are shipped in insulated boxes with cold packs.

All in all, it was a great afternoon at Foam Brewers. And I will definitely be back again!
